i made another beanie for Rinjani couple days ago. she's 7 months old now and she definitely needs a new beanie. :D

the urban beanie is still too big for her, but i'm sure it will fit her head soon. now, just enjoy her mongolian-like face with that oversize beanie. :p

finally i decided to gave these hats for Rinjani Sasikirana, a baby girl of good friends of mine. at first, i doubted that the hats would fit her. but, voila, it fit perfectly on her. perfect colors too! ain't she look adorable?? :)

i definitely will make more of these hats!

when i started to crochet 15 years ago, i made this ugly uneven blue square mat for my bookshelf. it was very very ugly. i made it without any pattern, i just went along with those long boring over tight double crochet stitches. but i was quite proud of it. i felt like a champion. too bad i didn't keep it.

i made my second table mat about three years ago. i got the Jameson pattern from Berroco. i finished it in a day and and i gave it to my fabulous friend, Ayu Utami, for inviting me and my boyfriend for lunch. i will take a picture of it when i visit her again. promise.

then last month, i looked over my vintage crochet book. oh yes, you should see this treasure of mine.

i found the book a year ago when i'm accompanying my boyfriend to a mall to buy shoes (again). then apparently there's a second book store just right beside the shoes store. and this book instantly attracted me, of course, with that giant CROCHET title on it. it was published in 1974 by Marshall Cavendish Ltd. ISBN 0-85685-273-2.

and then i was stunned with this beautiful...beautiful table mat.

so i decided to make some of them with my rami yarns. it didn't look quite what i expected, but i'm happy to see my new table mats!

last month, i bought this new japanese crochet book. yes, i bought it from japan! it's cheaper than those in Kinokuniya, Jakarta. a wonderful friend of mind bought it for me there and brought it with her to Jakarta. thank you, Yumiko!

Then i tried one pattern of those wonderful appliques and i got this cute fuchsia table mat. It's perfect! i will make more!

a gift for my model

after fighting against the heat of Jakarta, i decided to give Dita, my beloved model, a very slouchy hat. For the foundation i used pattern from Chez Crochet, but i modified a little bit to make it a bit bulky. i use the same yarn i used for this scarf from Tobucil. I think it's the perfect type of yarn to make rasta hat like this due to its softness yet worsted type. somehow i felt a bit dissapointed with my modification. Hehehe... But, the most important things are Dita loved it and i learned.

a gift

i haven't met her yet, but i've known her sister for a long time and it feels like i've known her for the same length of time. moreover, we share the same passion: needle crafts. she knits, i crochet. and thank God for the internet (and her sister, too) that could connect us crafters. one day i gave her a big pile of yarns. and then as a unexpeected return, she gave me this beautiful knitted grey scarf. even my beloved model wanted to kidnap it. i think i saw the crochet pattern of this yarn in Lion Brand website. i should try it someday.

diagonal block stitch scarf

the first time i found this october diagonal block stitch scarf, i was so in love. i have made several scarves using this pattern. i gave two scarves for my friends as birthday gifts and they all loved it! and i made this red scarf for myself using mixed color soft rayon yarns from Tobucil. though i never used any plain color yarns, the scarves look so beautiful. i promise i will make it with plain colored soft yarns like Suzzeta did it. Yes, it is an old hat and scarf i made couple years ago. I gave it to my boyfriend and he always wear them whenever he goes to someplace cooler. He loves it and I do too! But I asked Dita to wear them again. I just want some decent photos of my favourite things. ^_^

You can check the flap hat pattern in Garn Studio. Since i used rami yarn, so the hat is smaller than it was supposed to be.

This is just a simple double crochet scarf from the same rami yarn. The colors mix are very manly. But girls can use it just fine! Don't forget to match it with a pair of boots, ladies!

A Very Long V-Stitch Scarf

I love v-stitch. It's very easy and you can make a lot of beautiful stuffs with it: scarves, hats, even a dress. it's my number one favorite stitch before shell-stitch. One day, three years ago, I bought these pretty suede yarns in two colors: khaki and terracota from my favorite on-line store Tobucil. I browsed a lot of free patterns available on the websites, but i haven't found the right pattern to make due to the yarn textures. So, 6 months ago, I decided to make a v-stitch scarf. I had 2 balls of terracota yarns and 2 balls of khaki yarns. So, what should i do? Usually I can make a scarf out of 2 balls of yarns. But I didn't feel to make two scarves at that time. So I kept crocheting, those yarns and.... tada! This is the longest v-stitch scarf i ever made and I love it!

Look how long this scarf is! These colors make this scarf looks like caramel waffel. Yum! And actually I can use it for so many things. Here are some examples.

I love "Penelope" movie. The scarf used by Penelope (starring Christina Ricci) did take my breath away. It is surely a beautiful scarf to hide the piggy nose. I can use this scarf to hide my small nose too! He he! Kidding. I often go to the deep forest for my daily job. This scarf can warm my nose from freezing air at night in the forest. Besides, the v-stitch makes it very breezy and i can breath in it.

OR... you can play Coco Chanel with it! Driving convertible cars with your sunglasses on... You can't drive a convertible car in Jakarta, by the way. Or you'll get all burned! :D

Classy, huh? OR... you can go all 'Yo Mama' with this scarf! Zap! Zap! V-stitch scarf becomes a TURBAN! Ohh yea... you Bag Lady! *singing Erykah Badu's song*

Well... you don't need any pattern to do it. Just do the v-stitch forever until you reach desired length. :) Enjoy!

new beginning

hello!

it's been almost 2 years since my last post. gosh! but that doesn't mean i stop crocheting. well, pretty much. i've been crocheting slowly and produced some scarves and other learning projects. nowadays, i'm so obsessed with granny squares. yes, squares. you can do a lot with squares. couple months ago, i bought Eckman's Beyond Squares book in Kinokuniya, Jakarta. it is a great book indeed. very inspiring i can say! i learn to make those granny circles, granny triangles, granny everything. not all of them are easy, but they are so lovely. i'll show you later what i can make with them.

Although granny squares is my new obsession, i still stick with my old passion: hat. i always love making them. they are quick projects. very suitable with my little spare time. couple years ago, i browsed through ravelry and i found this beautiful hat pattern that using granny square technique. too bad i don't remember who make this wonderful pattern but hopefully by refering it to ravelry is quite enough for now. if one of you is the pattern creator, please let me know.

i made this hat for two little girls. they are my friends' daughters. i'm sure that this hat won't fit with their heads now as they're growing so fast.

This is Azwa. if i'm not mistaken, she was 3 years old by the time she wore this beanie. actually, i felt it was a bit tight for her, but her mom said that it fit her very well. and look how happy she is with her beanie! my heart was melting.....

i'm saving some money to buy a mannequin for my scarves and hats. i haven't found the 'right' one yet but meanwhile i've been using my boyfriend as the mannequin though he's an extremely difficult one. for example, when i asked him to pose for me, he insisted to be posed half naked. i told him that i will upload it on my websites, but he didn't care. well, what can i say...

a short vacation

hi there! how are you?
i took short leave days and i went to Bali last month for 4 days (yea, it is TOO short). i had a chance to visit my dear friends, Esti and Novi in Ubud. it was great. i missed them a lot.

Esti's house is drop dead gorgeous and exotic. Placed in the middle of the landlord's garden, the house is so comfortable and made me weep. Wish i can find a place like this in Jakarta. with the same rent price.

the house actually is quite small. no bedroom, but the kitchen and the dining 'room' are fantastic. she occasionally does bird watching while she's working at home, an activity that's really really hardly to do in Jakarta. Jakarta has no birds no more. They're all poisoned.

ok. i forgot to capture the kitchen, i'm sorry, but look at this open-wall dining room! i spent the whole morning sitting there while eating my apple and drinking my coffee. heard the birds chirping, the sound of the wind breeze. i think that's the best morning i've ever had in my life.

i love the horses! (yest, they're horses, not giraffes) i think they're not finished yet, you can see sculpture pattern lines on them. but esti didn't let me have them.

after we had our breakfast, she took me to the garden to pick some flowers. (oh i envy her more). the big flower there actually can be eaten. just mix it with some chili.

and she also HAS cocoa tree!

and there she is, wearing her new scarf from me. i'll be back, sweetie. hopefully soon!

hats for daughters

i love little girls. i envy all my friends who have daughters. and they love those hats i made for them. that makes me envy more...

This is Naia. Her mom's just starting to learn crochet. I gave the hat to her two weekends ago when she and her mom came to my house. i used candy dyed cotton rami yarn and tulip hook number 5.

And this is Sofya. Please read my previous post about her bunny handphone case. this is the beret i made for her. yes, it IS a beret. so why does it look like that on her?? first, the beret is still too big for her. second, she just want to wear it that way. just let her, okay? look at her big big smile... she's so happy....

the one who requested this stuff is only a 3 years old. having very busy parents, she has to have her own cell phone for emergency. and i made her this cute little bunny to hold her important phone. she brings it every where. she loves bunnies. i promise i'll capture her with it next time (and other things i made for her).

As the result of 'Fitna' movie made by a Dutch ultraconservative parliament member, our government banned some websites like youtube, multiply, rapidshare, etc. It's a total mess, believe me. I've been using multiply for the last three years and put all of my writings there (and those great comments, my friends, etc etc)! grrrhhhh!

Now i'm joining the waves of protests here in my hometown. Hope the govt releases the banned websites soon.

hats galore

i love making hats. it's simple, quick and doesn't need a lot of yarns. i made these hats below based on the pattern from garn studio, chezcrochet, bythehook and interweave crochet.

(this is the first hat i made for him last year. he loooves it)

(it's supposedly a bit slouchy...but the yarn's too thick. but i love this result, anyway)
